BMW Financial Services Health and Well Being Committee is hosting the Care4Water Virtual 6k July 14-16th, in an effort to raise money to provide filtration systems for the Care4Water Projects in Mexico. For some, clean water is not a given, and in developing countries, they must walk 6 kilometers a day to provide clean water for their family.
Catch the wave by simply doing what you love: running/walking! Help support Waves4Water & Care4Water by running or walking a virtual 6k at the location, time, and pace that is right for you. Connect with other participants via social media using the hashtags: #care4water, #waves4water, #care4water6k. Registration fee is $10 with100% of your entry fee donated to Care4Water. After registration, runners/walkers will be emailed a custom race bib. Wear it during your virtual run or display it in your office.
With your support, our goal is to fund two water stations, with each station consisting of one water tank which holds 5,000L of water and 10 filters. This long-term benefit will give clean water to over 2,000 people for over 5 years.
The filtration systems are portable and easy to use. One filter provides up to 100 people with clean water for 5 years. Creating these types of filtration systems is simple: generally all you need are paint buckets, a knife to make a hole, spigots and ceramic-drip water filters. All items are provided by Waves4Water.
A video on how to use water filters can be found here: http://store.wavesforwater.org/.
Only 3% of the world’s water is drinkable, making water a scarce resource for 1 billion people all over the world. According to the non-profit organization “The Water Project”, about two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages by 2025.
Waves4Water is a non-profit/charity organization and works on the front-line to provide clean water to communities in need around the world. The mission is simple: To get clean water to every single person who needs it. For instance, in Haiti, Waves4Water works hand-in-hand with the United Nations to distribute clean drinking water solutions to people suffering from the aftermath of the earthquake in 2010. In Brazil, the organization started a partnership with soccer superstar, Neymar, to bring clean water to cities hosting the Confederations Cup. Every project is based upon proven solutions in the form of portable, certified and long lasting water filters. Options range from ceramic filters that can be transported by one person, to larger filters that can provide clean water to an entire village.
Care4Water is a BMW Group Financial Services initiative with Waves4Water. The goal of the initiative is to involve all BMW Group Financial Services associates worldwide and leave a blueprint for further sustainable initiatives.
