About the Pi Day 5k

Join teachers, students and families for the Third Annual Pi Day 5K run being held the Saturday before “Pi-Day.” This signature race event provides an exciting opportunity to build excitement around mathematics and science education!  Pi Day, March 14 (3/14), is a fun celebration used by educators to draw attention to the important mathematical number pi. Pi, a transcendental number, is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter.
The Teaching & Learning Collaborative, formerly known as the Science & Mathematics Network, in operation since 1992, has a long successful history of designing and facilitating professional development programs for grades pK-12 educators in mathematics, science, and technology.  Proceeds from this event will support the important work coordinated by the Teaching & Learning Collaborative with the potential to reach hundreds of educators in grades PreK-12 working with thousands of students in Ohio.
Like many of our programs, this Pi Day race has an innovative twist! While many 5K runs are 3.1 miles, the Pi Day 5-K will be a 3.14 mile run/walk with a 1 mile Diameter Dash fun-run/walk.  We are encouraging schools, universities, businesses, and families to come out to run/walk together to support and foster excitement about mathematics and science education.

Pi Day 5k Virtual Race information
We’re had several people ask about the option for a virtual race-so this year, we’re adding it as an option.

Please be sure you understand the virtual race before signing up.

What is a virtual race?
A virtual race means that you can run or walk anywhere you are – no specific starting time or starting place… it means that you will NOT be at the actual race, instead you can run or walk your 3.14 miles anywhere you want!  We just ask that you complete your 3.14 miles on or before March 14th (and yes, you can celebrate with pie too!)

The Pi Day 5k Virtual race has two options:
1.     Register for the medal only ($20) or
2.     Register for the medal and shirt ($30).
(Please note the Pi Day 5k shirt will have the event date on it (March 8, 2014).  We will have these available to ship by March 1st so that you get them in time for “Pi Day” on March 14th (3.14).
How will the Virtual race work?
You run or walk your 3.14 miles for the Pi Day 5k between January-March 14th.  You can also join conversations on our facebook.com/PiDay5k page and share your photos and accomplishments!

If you have any questions about the virtual race, or would like a group rate, please call (614.265.9800) or email us at  kshrewsberry@teachinglearningcollaborative.org
