About Directions for Youth & Families Taking Strides For Kids 5K

Thank you for participating in the Inaugural Taking Strides for Kids 5k Run/Walk. Funds raised at the event help provide after-school and summer programs at Directions for Youth & Families two youth centers. Kids truly benefit from leadership development, fitness and nutrition, creative and performing arts, and the computer labs at the centers. Providing a safe, positive environment where kids can be successful is vital for their growth and futures.

Due to our terrific first year attendance, additional race shirts are being ordered for those of you that registered on race day and did not yet receive a race shirt. Race day registrants will receive an e-mail in the upcoming weeks to notify you once shirts arrive and are available for pick up. The note will include location and other details.

Thank you again for your participation at the 5k run/walk and for your support of kids in our community.

Join us for the Taking Strides for Kids 5k Run/Walk in Hilliard's Homestead Park and along the beautiful Heritage Rail Trail and make a difference in the lives of children in your community! Through your participation, you’ll be supporting programs that help less privileged youth achieve success.

Your support will provide after-school activities at the Short Stop and Ohio Avenue Youth Centers. Kids who have few opportunities elsewhere benefit from homework help, computer lab, creative and performing arts, and fitness and nutrition programs. After-school and summer programs reinforce staying in school, help with academics, promote leadership development and discipline, and provide time for creative and healthful activities.

In addition to Prevention programs at the youth centers and in schools, counseling programs provided in clients’ homes address substance abuse, family violence, aggression, teen pregnancy, delinquency, parenting, and life skills. Over 6,200 youth and their families are served annually. Most are at risk and low income.

Funding is from charitable contributions, governmental sources, United Way, corporations, foundations, and individual contributions. 92% of all funding goes to program costs.
